Highlights

  • Scenic: The 3-day Inca Trail continues to offer stunning scenery as you trek through the Andes, through dense cloud forests and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
  • Inca Ruins: Along the trail you will have the opportunity to explore several Inca archaeological sites such as Wiñay Wayna and Intipata, which give you a glimpse of the ancient Inca civilization. Gate of the Sun: On the morning of the third day, you will arrive at Inti Punku (Gate of the Sun) where you will see Machu Picchu from a distance for the first time. It’s an unforgettable moment when you approach this iconic attraction.
  • Machu Picchu: The 3-day trek ends with a visit to the majestic Machu Picchu. You will have plenty of time to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, including its temples, terraces and stone structures. Less physically demanding: The 3-day version of the trail is generally considered less physically demanding than the classic 4-day trek. This is a great option for anyone who wants to experience the Inca Trail but may not have the time or energy for a longer trip.
  • Permits and Regulations: As with the 4-day trek, it is important to obtain the necessary permits for the 3-day Inca Trail trek. Permits are limited and must be arranged in advance. In addition, hikers must have a certified guide.
  • Camping and facilities: The 3-day trek includes camping and the tour company provides tents, sleeping bags and meals. Although accommodations may be simpler than in the surrounding towns of Machu Picchu, it offers a unique desert experience.
  • Cultural Experience: During the trek, you will have the opportunity to interact with the local Quechua community and learn about their customs and way of life.
  • Challenging Terrain: Although less physically demanding than the 4-day trek, the 3-day version still involves high altitude hiking and challenging terrain. Be prepared for steep ups and downs. Great Photography: The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu offer countless photo opportunities. Be sure to bring your camera or smartphone to capture the stunning scenery and historic sites.
